Amy LaCour: Soul, Poetry, & Strings
August 22, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 – $15Any Place But Here explores the human themes of movement, identity, and expansion as reflected through the Great Migration, and using African-American poetry as lyrics. Amy‘s songs convey a young African-American male character migrating out of the South and heading toward an unnamed urban center. The music speaks of hope as a guiding force, the drive towards dignity, and the search for the elusive feeling of belonging in a hostile nation.
Featuring:
Amy LaCour – vocals
Amaranth – string quartet
“The Oakland resident’s remarkable new EP, Yes!, offers LaCour’s gorgeously evocative vocals, eloquent lyrics and beautiful, intricate melodies, enhanced by Misha Khalikulov’s incredibly inventive cello lines… The blend holds a special magic.” – Paul Freeman, Palo Alto Daily News
“If Joni Mitchell is waking up to the sound of a fresh drizzling rain, then LaCour is stepping through the door the moment the sun peeks out. It’s the raw cool of folk warmed with resting embers of soul.” – John Flynn, Metro Silicon Valley
