AN EVENING OF PERSIAN PERCUSSION WITH PEZHHAM AKHAVASS
Exploring Dimensions Of Persian Beats

Join us for an evening of Persian classical music and percussion with instruments tom bak and daf by acclaimed percussionist Pezhham Akhavass. The tombak is a type of goblet drum covered in animal skin that makes delicate, complicated and detailed rhythms with the rolling and snapping of the fingers on the side of the drum. The Daf is a frame drum whose interior is lined with small metal ringletts that make mesmerizing sounds with the shaking of the drum used by the Sufis in sacred ceremonies and known for its spiritual effect. Pezhham is known for being the leading percussionist of his generation. He has performed around the world and recorded with the masters of Persian music including Shahram Nazeri, Hossein Alizadeh, Saeed Farajpouri, Aliakbar Moradi and Majid Dereakshani.
