DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 28th\, 2022 \nRe-Opening with “Una Noche de Tango”\nThursday\, April 28th\, 2022 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm | FREE \n \n  \n  \nWe are thrilled to welcome you back into our cozy art house!  \nThis Thursday April 28th\, come and celebrate with us as we resume our “Performance Series”. \nWith “Una Noche de Tango” featuring Charles Gorczynski on bandoneon\, Sascha Jacobsen on double bass\, and Scott O’Day on guitar!  \nThis is our very first show after 113 weeks! \nYour presence is much appreciated! \nWe plan to resume our “Performance Program” with a few shows per month with limited capacity\, to slowly build up to our pre – COVID capacity. As we are building our team to present programs\, we are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Performance Host / Event Production team. We also look for volunteers for our events. Please read the announcement at the end of this email.  \nWe want to give a special shout out to a few amazing organizations that have recently awarded us with their funds: California Art council for Impact Project grant to support the MAPP (Mission Arts Performance Project)\, and the Cultural Organizations General Operating Relief. We are also very excited to share that we received Community vision’s San Francisco Arts Reopening Fund to support our reopening process. \nWe are incredibly grateful for YOU: Our amazing community members\, artists\, donors\, and audience who have supported us and helped us get through the last 2 challenging years. With your support\, we will be able to continue our work in presenting unique artistry in 2022.  \nYour Red Poppy Family \n  \nOUR COVID PROTOCOLS\nWe appreciate your patience and support as we learn together how to navigate the challenges around COVID\, to create a safe space for our artists\, staff and community for in person events.  \nWe missed our packed events\, but for our staff\, volunteers & artists safety\, we need to keep a Limited capacity and follow safety guidelines. \nFor all our events\, guests will be required to: \n\nProvide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations (2 doses + 1 booster at least) and a photo ID \nWear masks indoors during the event at all times.\n\nRecognizing that not everybody is ready to return to in-person events\, and wearing masks for a long duration of time might be hard\, we are also working on expanding our virtual capacity and continue to offer virtual events as well as the flexibility of blending virtual and in-person programs. \nWe look forward to seeing you soon\, whether in-person or virtually! \nThursday April 28th with “Una Noche de Tango”\nCome and celebrate with us as we resume our performance program series after over 2 years!\n \nTWO SHOWS\nDate: Thursday April 28\, 2022\nTime: (First Show) 6:30pm doors\, 7pm show /(Second Show) 8:30pm doors\, 8:45pm show\nAdmission: (Online) $25-30 / (Door) $35 general\, $25 student & senior\n \nTICKETS\n \n*We missed our packed events\, but due to COVID\, and our staff\, volunteers & artists safety\, we need to keep a Limited capacity. Their romantic Tango sound is cool\, impassioned\, sensuous\, seductive and enticing. The members of the trio have crossed the country and the world to be here for the concert!\n \nFEATURING\nCharles Gorczynski – bandoneón\nSascha Jacobsen – contrabajo\nScott O’Day – guitarra\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS\nSascha Jacobsen\nHe was born into a musical family\, going as far back as his great\, great\, great\, great-grandfather\, who was a bassist for the Moscow Opera. His mentors have been Michael and James Finley\, John Brecher\, Nico Abondolo\, and Dennis Trembly\, as well as Wolfgang Guttler and Shinji Eshima. He completed a Master’s degree at the University of Southern California and has served on the faculty at The California Jazz Conservatory\, Humboldt State University\, Laney College\, Golden Gate Bass Camp\, and the Sequoia Chamber Music Festival. Sascha has performed with Kronos Quartet\, Rita Moreno\, Hugh Jackman\, Martin Short\, Mandy Patinkin & Patti LuPone\, Marc Shaiman\, Bonnie Raitt\, Randy Newman\, Josh Groban\, Kristin Chenoweth\, Andrew Lippa\, Eddie Duran\, Dave MacNab\, Tim Weed\, Tango masters Raul Jaurena\, Pepe Motta\, and Maria Volonte\, Flamenco greats Chuscales\, Jose Luis Rodriguez\, and Juanito Pascual\, as well as Grammy winning artists Mads Tolling and Tupac Mantilla\, and many others. He was a founding member of the Classical Revolution movement\, which has spread around the world and has performed with Adam Theis and the Jazz Mafia.\nSascha also performed as principal bass with the Santa Cruz Symphony\, and the American Musical Theatre in San Jose\, and as a section member of the Monterey Symphony and the Sarasota Opera\, as well as on the world premier production of Rita Moreno’s Life Without Makeup\, Martin Short’s Fame Becomes Me\, and Hugh Jackman In Performance\, recorded the new cast album of A Chorus Line\, and has toured the world with the Argentine Tango group: Trio Garufa.\nHe is the founder of the Musical Art Quintet which performs his original works. Strad Magazine say his music is “…Stylish and Vigorous…beautifully arranged”. SF Bay Gaurdian says “composer-bassist Sascha Jacobsen’s concoctions hop nimbly through a world of styles while impressing with ear-catching intricacy and handsome technique.”. East Bay Express says “Classical Music is sexy again”. SF Weekly says: “Classical training and a taste for evocative melodies underpin this sound”.\nwww.saschajacobsen.com\n \nCharles Gorczynski\nOakland\, California based composer and bandoneonist Charles Gorczynski writes modern tango and contemporary chamber music without stylistic restriction. As leader of the acclaimed bay area sextet Redwood Tango Ensemble and member of Barreiro Tango Trio\, he has toured extensively in North America and Europe\, including performances in San Francisco\, Los Angeles\, Chicago\, New York\, Portland\, Seattle\, Montreal\, Pisa\, and Rome. Charles has performed Astor Piazzolla’s Bandoneon Concerto “Aconcagua” with composer Mason Bates’ Mercury Soul Orchestra\, has worked with the California Symphony\, San Jose Chamber Orchestra\, Civic Orchestra of Chicago\, and has debuted his compositions on concert bills with the Kronos Quartet\, Friction Quartet\, Diego Schissi\, and Tango Sin Fin. He actively supports local community and publishes scores and transcriptions on his personal website. Charles has toured internationally as bandoneonist for the Argentine tango groups Tango BC Trio\, Barreiro Tango Trio\, and Alejandro Ziegler Quartet\, and collaborated on dozens of tango albums. His compositions for various ensembles have been debuted with Chamber Music Northwest Festival in Portland and with IntermusicSF in San Francisco\, where he was twice awarded the MGP grant (2016 / 2018) commissioning new compositions in the style. Handling woodwinds and electronics\, his improvisational work with the long-standing Colorlist (with Charles Rumback and John Hughes) produced six albums exploring “lush\, hypnotizing soundscapes… a gorgeous constellation of melodic lines…” (Peter Margasak\, Chicago Reader)\, noted as “a splendidly fresh free-jazz trip… spellbinding” (Igloo Magazine) . Colorlist released their most recent album ‘Full Circle’ with Serein Records\, where “the band creates soundscapes that are clearly informed by jazz but incorporate a sonic palette rooted in the broad genre of electronica\, which allows them to explore realms of bubbling and pittering ambience\, collections of subtly glitching gestures\, and washes of frequencies that emphasize the ambiguity of sound.”(Margasak\, Chicago Reader)\nCharles has released albums with Serein Records\, 482 Music\, Ropeadope Records\, Front Forty Press\, and has recently launched his own imprint Caverns Records.\nhttps://www.charlesgorczynski.com/\n \nScott O’Day\nScott received a Bachelor’s of Music in guitar performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s of Music in guitar performance from San Francisco State University. He attended La Escuela de Musica Popular de Avellaneda in Buenos Aires. Scott has travelled the world to learn flamenco\, tango and other folk music. He grew up in North Carolina playing blues and folk. Scott directs and performs regularly with his various tango ensemble projects. He has toured the United States with tango dance bands and is active throughout the country as a musician in the tango dance community. Scott is proficient in French and Spanish.
