SUMMARY:Fula Brothers: West African Grooves & Global Guitar
DESCRIPTION:Fula Brothers are a high-spirited meeting of veteran performers from West Africa and America\, each with a history of innovation and collaboration with some of the beloved musicians of these cultures. Together they weave West African hunter’s harp\, fingerstyle guitar\, drums\, vocals\, and a bounty of improvisation into an ecstatic groove-based dialogue which the heart\, and the feet\, cannot resist.\n \nFEATURING:\nMamadou Sidibe – kamale ngoni (hunter’s harp)\nWalter Strauss – guitar\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nMaster kamale ngoni player Mamadou Sidibe is from the Wassoulou Region of Mali\, West Africa. Twenty-five years ago\, Sidibe played a groundbreaking role in the transformation of this region’s music from its origins in hunters’ sacred melodies–played on six-string donso ngoni (hunter’s harps)–to a music of philosophical observations\, politics\, and daily life. Sidibe has won several awards for songwriting including the Billboard World Music Award and the John Lennon Songwriting competition. \nFingerstyle guitarist Walter Strauss’ multi-layered style draws on American roots\, jazz\, classical\, and cultural guitar traditions\, but what makes his playing utterly distinctive is how it is informed by other global stringed instruments. He has delved deep into the harp traditions of West Africa\, integrating elements of their richly layered styles and rhythmic sensibilities with his own and rendering traditional pieces on the guitar. \nLearn more: Website \n  \nEVENT DETAILS\n \nTime: 7:00pm doors / 7:30pm show\nAdmission: (Online) $20-25 / (Door) $25 general\, $20 student & senior with valid ID\nNote: A limited quantity of additional tickets will be available for purchase at the door. \nPurchase advance tickets for this event:\nNote: Purchasing an advance ticket guarantees admission but does not guarantee seats.
