DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2003\, the Mission Arts & Performance Project (MAPP) is a homegrown bi-monthly\, multidisciplinary\, intercultural happening that takes place in the Mission District of San Francisco. In her work\, she combines both digital and traditional techniques\, her attention to the form of a letter or the shaping of a word places language and text at the tactile and metaphoric center of her work. Much of her visual poetry has been published and exhibited around the world. She currently lives and works in the Bay Area. Learn more: Website\n  \n \n\nABOUT THE GUEST CURATOR: \nAdrian Arian is a poet\, visual artist\, performer\, art teacher and South American cultural activist based in the Bay Area for two decades. His poetry and visual art have won awards and local and international recognition. His work has been presented at the Young Museum\, San Marcos Museum\, Poetic Nights of Struga\, Macedonia\, Benamil Residence in Spain\, Venice Biennale\, Latin American Biennial of Lima\, etc. Creator of the multidisciplinary event Illusion Show\, and the Poem of the Day. It consists primarily of finger-style Spanish guitar interpolations of modern artists such as Radiohead\, Bjork\, Portishead\, Sade\, etc. blended with his unique live-looping style. Integrating aspects of jazz and flamenco to his guitar covers\, he brings forth sultry interpretations of inspiring songs from iconic artists.\n \n \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nDescribed as spiritual and sensual\, Genie Santiago is a Boston based singer\, poet and visual artist. Her art draws from her experience growing up in poverty as a Queer Latina. Genie is unafraid to empower others to overcome trauma\, decolonize the mind\, promote sexual freedom\, and stray from the ideals of self-hatred that society places upon us. She can be found blessing many stages performing originals from her EP\, “Know Your Worth”\, and her newest single\, “Spirit Party”.\n \nFEATURING:\nGenie Santiago – lead vocals\nStephanie Houten – acoustic guitar and supporting vocals\nAnais Azul – cajon and supporting vocals\n \n \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nPeruvian first generation immigrant Anaís Azul (they/them) is a Bay Area based singer-songwriter\, composer\, and teaching artist. Described as “stunningly honest and vulnerable\,” their artistry engages with music as a tool for community building\, cross-genre collaboration\, and collective healing. Anaís writes music that is in conversation with jazz harmony\, classical melodies\, and Latin American singer-songwriter traditions. Their songs are bilingual (Spanish and English) and primarily about mental health and queer love. Learn More: Website\n \nFEATURING:\nNiko Umar-Durr – violin\nSam Marston – piano\nAnaís Azul – vocals and ukulele\n \n \n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nFor the past 13 years\, Oakland-based band LoCura has crafted their own distinct musical identity Califas Canto\, a remix of rhythms and vocal expressions from Spain to California. With the cajón drum as the pulse\, LoCura weaves a tapestry of migratory beats together with lyrical poetry evoking the cultural kaleidoscope of their hometown Oakland. Their themes draw on cultural resilience\, immigrants rights & border issues and making another world possible.
