DESCRIPTION:Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Alimr Côrtes invites local favorite guitarist Ricardo Peixoto for an evening of choros\, sambas\, and bossa novas.\n \nFEATURING:\nAlmir Côrtes – mandolin\, guitars\nRicardo Peixoto – 6\, 7 & 12-string guitars\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nA native of Bahia\, Brazil\, versatile multi-instrumentalist Almir Côrtes is equally at home on mandolin and acoustic and electric guitars. His repertoire of styles is equally broad\, including choro\, frevo\, samba\, maxixe\, and Brazilian jazz among others\, performing throughout the Americas and Europe with luminaries such as David Grisman\, Nailor Proveta\, Howard Alden\, Armandinho Macedo\, and Mike Marshall—who calls him “a virtuoso instrumentalist who swings like mad in a variety of musical styles\, and improvises with great energy and creativity.” \nOriginally from Rio de Janeiro and a long-time Bay Area resident\, guitarist\, composer\, and arranger Ricardo Peixoto has a deep background in Brazilian styles\, as well as jazz and classical music. An inspired improviser with a keen compositional sense\, Peixoto’s eloquent style evokes images far beyond his Brazilian territory. He has performed and recorded with\, among many others\, Claudia Villela\, the Berkeley Choro Ensemble\, Flora Purim and Airto\, Paul McCandless\, Bud Shank\, Dom Um Romão\, Sivuca\, Claudio Roditi\, Toots Thielemans\, Dori Caymmi\, Guinga\, and Arturo Sandoval. \n  \nEVENT DETAILS\n \nTime: 7:00pm doors / 7:30pm show\nAdmission: $20-25 sliding scale.
