SUMMARY:Kavita Shah & François Moutin Duo: Acoustic Bass & Vocal Duets
DESCRIPTION:French​ ​bassist​ ​François​ ​Moutin​ ​and​ ​New​ ​York​ ​vocalist​ ​Kavita​ ​Shah​ ​embrace​ ​virtuosity\,​ ​spontaneity\,​ ​and lyricism​ ​through​ ​standards​ ​and​ ​original​ ​music​ ​adapted​ ​to​ ​acoustic bass​ ​and​ ​voice. Their first album\, Interplay\, features 11 tracks recorded at Sear Sound Studios in New York and Studio le Meudon in Paris\, and is due for release in 2018 on Dot Time Records. Shah and Moutin are joined by their octogenarian mentors\, NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan on vocals and legendary pianist Martial Solal\, on two tracks each. The result is an improvisational journey across lyric-driven and wordless​ ​pieces​ ​alike.\n \nFEATURING:\nKavita Shah – vocals\nFrançois Moutin – bass\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nVirtuosic bassist François Moutin was born in Paris\, and since 1998 has co-led the Moutin Reunion Quartet\, a project which later evolved into the Moutin Factory Quintet. He has been a member of the legendary Martial Solal Trio for three decades and has worked in over 30 countries with such musicians as Antoine Hervé\, André Ceccarelli\, Jean-Michel Pilc\, Randy Brecker\, Dave Liebman\, Toots Thielemans\, James Moody\, Terry Lyne Carrington\, Michel Legrand\, Birele Lagrene\, Jimmy Heath\, Monty Alexander\, Lew Soloff\, Billy Hart\, Jeff Tain Watts\, Ari Hoenig\, Dave​ ​Binney\,​ ​Adam​ ​Rogers\,​ ​Rudresh​ ​Mahanthappa\,​ ​Vijay​ ​Iyer\,​ ​and​ ​Amir​ ​El​ ​Saffar. \nKavita Shah is a vocalist\, composer\, and lifelong New Yorker who makes work in deep engagement with the jazz idiom while addressing and advancing its global sensibilities. Hailed by ​NPR for her “amazing dexterity for musical languages\,” Shah incorporates strands of Latin American\, West African\, and Asian traditions into her original music. Her debut album\, VISIONS\, co-produced by guitarist Lionel Loueke\, was released in 2014 to great critical acclaim.
