SUMMARY:Cellista/Joshua Icban/Ransom Dance: “Testimony”
DESCRIPTION:“Testimony\,” a reprise of Cellista’s performance art piece “Wants\,” confronts issues of identity\, loss\, displacement\, and acceptance within the Bay Area arts community\, is an avant-garde response to the experiences of artists during these uncertain\, sour times. The evening features sound design and performance by Cellista\, choreography by Lilith Ransom of Ransom Dance\, and the ambient music of composer and guitarist Joshua Icban. \nFeaturing:\nCellista – cello\, live score\nLilith Ransom – choreography\, dancing\nJoshua Icban – guitar \nCellista is an acclaimed American cellist and the artistic director of the for-profit performing arts company Juxtapositions. She is known for her multidisciplinary installations\, which involve collaborations with artists across various media and across a range of genres including pop\, hip-hop\, and classical. Her live performances incorporate elements of classical music\, theater\, improvisation\, and visual art\, sometimes in unconventional spaces. \nLearn more: Website | Facebook | Bandcamp \nJoshua Icban\, winner of Vallejo High’s Louis Armstrong Award for Excellence in Jazz\, earned an associate’s degree in music at Solano Community College under the mentorship of local music great Delbert Bump. He has performed with numerous music projects\, including the Savages\, the Jazz Cartel\, and Blood Sweat and Funk. Both of his recent groups\, Joey Ramone and the Dynamics\, perform around the Bay Area. \nLilith Ransom grew up training and choreographing with the Santa Cruz Ballet Theater\, moving on to study with the RDA/P Craft of Choreography Conference\, Pacific Northwest Ballet\, American Ballet Theater\, and LINES Ballet. After a career that included work with the Nashville Ballet\, Los Angeles Ballet\, and the Missouri Contemporary Ballet\, she began teaching youth at the Presser Performing Arts Center in Mexico\, Missouri\, as well as choreographing for the Missouri Contemporary Ballet and her students. She now teaches and choreographs with Kid Stock Inc\, and she teaches private and group ASL-accessible ballet classes for all age ranges and genders in the Bay Area.\n  \nEVENT DETAILS\n \nTime: Doors 7:00PM / Show 7:30PM\nAdmission: $15-20 sliding scale\nTickets will not be sold in advance for this event – please arrive at the Red Poppy when doors open to purchase tickets.
