DESCRIPTION:Taking its name from the Southern California foothills\, jazz pianist Richard Sears’ Altadena is a five-part suite that features drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath in a mostly free-form musical context\, blurring the line between soloist and accompanist.  \nFeaturing:\nSteven Lugerner – alto saxophone\, bass clarinet\nPatrick Wolff – tenor saxophone\nRichard Sears – piano\, compositions\nGarret Lang – bass\nTootie Heath – drums \nBrooklyn-based pianist Richard Sears has performed with some of the greatest jazz musicians alive\, including Chick Corea\, Mark Turner\, Joshua Redman\, and Billy Hart. His compositions have been recognized by the Aaron Copland Fund and the Los Angeles Jazz Society. In 2015\, Richard released his latest trio recording\, Skyline\, on Fresh Sound Records. \nGrowing up in Philadelphia\, Tootie Heath came of age playing drums with the likes of Bobby Timmons\, McCoy Tyner\, and Jimmy Garrison. He made his recording debut on John Coltrane’s first album\, Coltrane\, in 1957. Tootie\, who lived in New York and Denmark through the 1960s\, continued to make history working with Thelonious Monk\, Nina Simone\, Wes Montgomery\, and Dexter Gordon\, among others. Currently\, Tootie lives in Santa Fe\, New Mexico. He is 81 years old.\n \n \n\nAdmission: $15-25. Doors at 7:00pm. Show at 7:30pm.
