SUMMARY:Flying Under the Radar Presents: Ricardo Peixoto Quartet: An Evening of Brazilian Music
DESCRIPTION:The Red Poppy Art House and Flying Under the Radar join together for a three-night co-production of artists from Brazil and the U.S.\, featuring Ian Faquini ft. Sandy Cressman & Colin Hogan (Thurs 1/7)\, Brazil Beat (Fri 1/8)\, and Ricardo Peixoto Quartet (Sat 1/9). \nOriginally from Rio de Janeiro and based in the Bay Area\, guitarist/composer Ricardo Peixoto is among the top representatives of Brazilian guitar in the US today. His fluid\, melodic style and keen compositional sense explore his country’s rich and diverse traditions\, both in original works as well as in arrangements of Brazilian classics. Peixoto has recorded\, performed\, and collaborated with Claudia Villela\, Flora Purim and Airto\, saxophonist Bud Shank\, percussionist Dom Um Romão\, Toots Thielemans\, Dori Caymmi\, Guinga\, Claudio Roditi\, guitarist Carlos Oliveira\, Marcos Silva and Terra Sul. He has performed throughout the US\, Europe\, Canada\, Japan\, and Brazil. \nFeaturing:\nRicardo Peixoto – guitar\nColin Hogan – accordion\nAaron Germain – bass\nBrian Rice – percussion\n \nAbout Flying Under the Radar:\nLeading up to Flying Under the Radar’s 2017 Biennial Festival of the Arts\, FUTR is partnering with local SF/Bay Area organizations to present a vibrant and eclectic range of artists producing work across disciplines and aesthetics\, as well as to broaden and deepen relationships across artistic communities. \nThe first Flying Under the Radar Biennial will debut in San Francisco\, California over five days in April 2017. A second edition\, in 2019\, will occur in Rio de Janeiro. The event will feature thirty emerging or career artists with limited or no exposure outside their home countries. Participating artists will be from the metropolitan areas of Rio de Janeiro and San Francisco/Bay Area\, and will be known for working in the areas of Film and Video\, Music\, Dance and Performance\, Poetry\, and Visual Arts. \n \n\nAdmission: $20. Doors at 7:00pm. Show at 7:30pm. All ages welcome. \nTickets will not be sold in advance for this event.
