DESCRIPTION:For a rare Bay Area performance\, Mark Growden and his long-time collaborator Chris Grady bring to the Red Poppy a combination of soulful vocals with elements of chamber\, folk\, and jazz.\n\n \nMark Growden is a composer\, conductor\, multi-instrumentalist and the director/founder of The Calling All Choir. Raised in a small mountain community in Northeast California\, his work emanates earthy\, soulful and poetic tones. Growden has ten years of experience teaching music in schools and currently leads singing workshops across the country. He has devoted his life to making music for other people\, and to helping other people make music for themselves.\n \n\n\nFeaturing:\n\n\nMark Growden – vocals\, saxophones\, accordion\, banjo\, sruti box\, bicycle handlebars\nChris Grady – trumpet\, cornet\n\n\n\n“His music combines elements from classical jazz ensembles\, New Orleans-style brass bands\, cabaret fanfare\, and circus troupes with the stark honesty of Appalachian folk ballads and African-American prison songs.” – Taos News \n“Rich\, haunting and personal song cycles that incorporate avant-garde\, rock\, cabaret\, blues\, country\, contemporary classical and Tin Pan Alley.” – Tucson Weekly \n\n\nFollow Mark on Facebook and YouTube.\n\n\n\n\nAdmission: $15-25.
