DESCRIPTION:In Satch and Fats\, vocalist Lavay Smith and her band will be performing favorites like “Honeysuckle Rose” and “Basin Street Blues” by two of the most swingin’ and innovative artists in American history\, Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller.Lavay Smith is the vocalist and bandleader of the Red Hot Skillet Lickers\, one of the top swingin’ jazz and blues bands in the world. She grew up in Southern California and the Philippines\, and has become an internationally recognized diva of jazz and blues\, with a singing style influenced by Billie Holiday\, Dinah Washington\, Bessie Smith\, Little Esther Phillips and other legendary greats. Whether singing her own compositions or drawing on a large repertoire of classics\, Lavay and her all-star 7-piece band bake up an instant recipe for dancing and good times. Joining her at the Red Poppy are four of the finest musicians. \n\n\nThe Band:\nLavay Smith – vocals\nJules Broussard – saxes\nDanny Armstrong – trombone & vocals\nSam Rocha – bass\nChris Siebert – piano \nMore on the Band:\nCollectively\, Lavay’s band members have performed with several famous musicians throughout the years. Chris Siebert is the bandleader and musical director\, having worked with folks like Taj Mahal\, Alvin Youngblood Heart\, Quinn Deavaux. Jules Broussard is a native of Louisiana and has played with Ray Charles\, Big Mama Thorton\, and Eddie Clean Head Vinson. In addition to playing the trombone and singing duets with Lavay\, Danny Armstrong has performed with Johnny Otis\, Jackie Wilson and Archie Bell and the Drells. Ron Belcher always brings his rhythmically uplifting style to the stage for a wide diversity of jazz artists\, such as Ledisi\, Faye Carol and John Handy. \nAdmission: $15-20. \nTime: Doors for first show at 6:30pm. Event starts at 7:00pm. Second show starts at 8:30pm. All ages welcome. \nTickets will not be sold in advance for this event.
