 \nOn Exhibition: November 7 –  January 1\, 2011 (EXTENDED) \nReception: Thursday\, December 8\, 2011\, 6-9pm \nThe Red Poppy Art House is excited to present Mission Lascaux\, a site-specific installation by Claire Brandt exploring communication\, embodiment\, movement and the connection between all three. Mission Lascaux will be an installation of life-size cut-paper wild animals of the land\, sea and air mid-movement on the gallery walls of the Red Poppy Art House. Visitors to the Poppy will be able to compare their own bodies to animals they would not usually have an opportunity to be close to—Orca whales and coyotes for example—giving them an opportunity to feel a physical connection with beings outside of usual urban experience. Brandt’s installation will develop over the course of November\, culminating in a final closing reception on December 8\, 2011\, 6-9pm. \nBrandt’s work has been shown in Los Angeles and the Bay Area\, most recently at the David Brower Center in Berkeley. She maintains an active studio practice in San Francisco’s Infill Studios (of which she is a founding member). Brandt has been awarded residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and the Headlands Center for the Arts: Open to the Elements.  She received her A.B. in English and American Literature from Harvard College in 1994 and an MFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2005. She was raised in Bellingham & Tacoma\, Washington.

DESCRIPTION:Born Ernesto Browne in Pt. Fortin\, Trinidad\, NezB has been singing since his youth when he sang onstage with Miriam Makeba. He has sung with OJ Ekemode\, Lynn Taitt\, Jackie Mittoo\, One Love (Randy Jackson on bass)\, Obeah\, Mystic Wariyah\, Vision\, DV8\, Bass Culture\, and more… \nMamadou Sidibe (Mali) played a groundbreaking role in transforming the music of Mali’s Wassalou region from its origins in hunters’ sacred melodies – played on six string donso ngoni (hunter’s harps) – to a music of philosophical observations\, political commentary\, women’s rights\, and daily life. He was one of the first to expand the instrument’s range with two extra strings\, creating the popular kamalengoni. He has recently enhanced the kamalengoni even further\, by creating 10 and 12 string versions. Mamadou\, with artists Coumba Sidibe\, Oumou Sangare and Ramatu Diakite\, spread the new sounds through recordings and performances in Europe\, Africa and the United States.
