FRESH Exchanges at Red Poppy Art House
FRESH Festival 2018 is San Francisco’s 9th annual festival of experimental dance, music, and performance from January 5-27, 2018. FRESH Festival starts the new year with an extravaganza of embodied art, action, and interaction, showcasing new work and ideas in dance, music, and performance. This year’s theme is ANTIDOTE. Pandora’s Box is open and we are our best hope.
FRESH 2018 offers four weekends of risk-taking main-stage Performances, three weeks + weekends of immersive studio Practices, and 14 social and interactive Exchanges, hosted by Joe Goode Annex, Red Poppy Art House and F8 Nightclub in San Francisco, and Finnish Hall in Berkeley. The festival is inspired by and transmitted through the curiosity of 50+ cutting-edge artists from the Bay Area and beyond. FRESH is open to all serious, curious, and adventurous bodies.
FRESH Festival is an ARTLAB [a rising tide lifts all boats] Production by ALTERNATIVA, a fiscally sponsored project of Dancers’ Group. FRESH 2018 is curated by Kathleen Hermesdorf and José Navarrete, with input by Abby Crain, co-sponsored by Joe Goode Annex, and supported by Dancers’ Group’s Matching Fund, the Zellerbach Family Foundation, William + Flora Hewlett Foundation, and Kenneth Rainin Foundation, along with many generous individuals.
ABOUT FRESH EXCHANGES:
FRESH Exchanges are affordable social events made to cultivate, cross-pollinate, and invigorate dance, music, and performance communities. In collaboration with local allies, this year’s festival presents 14 Exchanges in the frameworks of Happy Hours at F8 Nightclub (Jan 8, 15, 22); RIPE [raw + intimate performance experiments], POTLUCK/Social Practice, and Alternative Conservatory at Red Poppy Art House (Jan 9-11, 16-18, 23-25); I’m Exhausted So My Soul is Rested: Transnational Epistolaries at Finnish Hall (Jan 14); and EnQueery Within/Queer this Jam! at Joe Goode Annex (Jan 21).
FRESH Exchanges offer nine interactive, inclusive, and insightful gatherings at Red Poppy Art House – RIPE [raw + intimate performance experiments] presents two artists sharing brand new material along with moderated feedback by a lovely host; POTLUCK/Social Practice explores collaborative coexistence and conversations with warm food and a convivial atmosphere; and Alternative Conservatory encourages thinking outside the box with a lecture/performance, panel discussion, and workshop.
