Introducing the Urban American Jewess
Vocalist, songwriter, actor Saria Idana takes the mic with an all-star band. With influences ranging from Marvin Gaye to Suzanne Vega, Wu-Tang, Yasmin Levy and Balkan Beat Box, Idana blends styles into surprising, uplifting sounds seasoned with passionate longing and hope.
This spring she releases her neo-soul EP Deeper than Skin produced by Jordan Feinstein, and is featured on Women in Dub by Dubblestandart, backing band for Lee “Scratch” Perry. In 2012, Idana was awarded for her solo hip-hop theater show HOMELESS IN HOMELAND about Jewish identity and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reviewed as “a dramatic tour-de-force not to be missed”.
