AJAYU Andean Fusion
March 23, 2013 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 – $15Latino Fusion Music Rooted in the Indigenous, the Andes
AJAYU is a six piece band that plays Latino fusion music rooted in the indigenous cultures of the Andes. Their original compositions and modern sounds are produced by the combination of traditional Andean instruments-Zampoñas and Quenas (flutes), Bombo (Ecuadorian drum), and Charango (small 8 string guitar from Bolivia) and non traditional instruments-violin, bass, and guitar. Their lyrics are socially, culturally, and politically conscious. With a ride range of songs that go from spiritual to totally danceable and all the in between, AJAYU is both versatile and unique.
This is an interactive performance where we will be explaining rhythms/significance and inviting audience members to join us in percussion, song, and dance!
*Ajayu means soul in Aymara, an indigenous language of Bolivia
