ARAM SHELTON QUARTET + ADAMS MEZZACAPPA DUO
September 22, 2012 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 – $20Everything For Somebody Album Release
The Aram Shelton Quartet plays creative Jazz music inspired by Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, and Charles Mingus. In this quartet, Shelton (Oakland) plays alto saxophone and is joined by Chicagoans Keefe Jackson on tenor saxophone, Anton Hatwich on bass, and Tim Daisy on drums. The new album “Everything for Somebody”, features compositions that place the players in familiar and challenging territory. All four members contribute narrative solos to the album, displaying their individual styles while making a collective music that is joyful, energetic, raw and poignant. Lisa Mezzacappa and (ROVA) saxophonist Steve Adams have been performing together in trio, quartet and large ensemble contexts for several years. For this set, they will explore compositions each of them have written for larger groups, compressed into the fantastically intimate and possibility-rich context of the duo.
