CLASSICAL REVOLUTION PRESENTS: KARAVIKA
September 13, 2012 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$10 – $20
Indo-Western Chamber Ensemble
Karavika, New York City’s Indo-Western chamber ensemble, is led by violinist Trina Basu and cellist Amali Premawardhana. Drawing from the rich classical and folk traditions of India, Europe and NorthAmerica, Karavika is in San Francisco celebrating the release of their recent debut CD, “SUNRISE”, which All About Jazz describes as: “A dynamic sonic blend of uncommon mesmeric beauty.” Drawing upon influences ranging from simple folk melodies to complex classical compositions, Karavika’s music seeks to blend creative improvisations and arrangements with authentic traditions. They are performing at Red Poppy on behalf of the Classical Revolution Music Festival.
Trina Basu: violin
Amali Premawardhana: cello
Perry Wortman: bass
Sameer Gupta: tabla
“A diversely melodic, often hypnotic original sound that occasionally reaches toward Appalachian rusticity or a brisk Celtic mood… Whether quiet and reflective or joyously energetic, the melodies are as bright as the musicians’ tone: this is music for celebrating or getting lost in” – Lucid Culture
“It is a liquid and organic brew that sounds inevitable, as if it’s existed forever…” Dan McClengaghan, All About Jazz
$10-$20 admission. Doors at 6:30 pm. Show at 7:00 pm.
All ages welcome!
