October 3rd MAPP: The Fall of Freedom
THIS IS A FREE EVENT
Saturday, October 3, 2026 | 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Join us for an evening celebrating rhythm, storytelling, and music as a force for connection. This MAPP brings together three distinct performances, moving from the vibrant sounds of South America and the Caribbean to the energy of Latin jazz and the soulful call of folk protest music.
Together, the evening journeys through tradition and contemporary expression, from joyful rhythms and improvisation to songs of solidarity, freedom, and hope.
This MAPP is a participating event in Fall of Freedom, a nationwide arts initiative bringing together artists, cultural organizations, and communities through performances and creative expression.

Launched in 2003, the Mission Arts & Performance Project (MAPP) is a homegrown bi-monthly, multidisciplinary, intercultural event that takes place in the Mission District of San Francisco. On the first Saturday of every even month of the year, the MAPP transforms ordinary spaces, such as private garages, gardens, living rooms, studios, street corners, and small businesses into pop-up performance and exhibition sites for a day/night of intimate-scale artistic and cultural exchange among a kaleidoscope of individuals and communities.

Mamboleo is a band of young musicians from across the Bay Area. They mix the fire of traditional Cuban rhythms with the adventure of modern jazz, and the sound is all their own. Based in San Francisco, they play regularly with the Mission Arts Performance Project, have performed at Bird & Beckett and Brick & Mortar, and have shared the stage with artists like La Doña. Their set moves through Cuban standards, jazz classics and their own original music. It’s music handed down and made new by a new generation.

Folk, Soul, Protest: Anti-racist folk in solidarity with working-class folks
Timothy Goodspeed – vocals, guitar, and suitcase drum
Ariel Bowser – vocals
Pierre Jauretche – bass guitar
The Soapbox Salute presents protest songs that confront many of the urgent issues facing our world, from police violence and the military-industrial complex to houselessness and immigrant rights. Yet the music is more than protest; it is a vehicle for creating a sacred space where we can dare to imagine a better future in which all people can live with dignity and abundance.
Rooted in folk music and drawing from soul, rock ’n’ roll, and the blues, the songs offer a melodic and dynamic call for freedom, featuring stunning harmonies by Ariel Bowser and compelling bass by Pierre Jauretche. Songwriter Timothy Goodspeed, a teacher and father, leads the project on vocals, guitar, and suitcase drum set.
Goodspeed founded The Soapbox Salute as a way to advocate for oppressed people around the world and inspire the possibility of a more just future for all.
