ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Hasan Imam Hamdani is a multifaceted artist known for his prowess as a guitarist, innovative compositions, and as the creative force behind the collaborative, global music ensemble, Imam Collective. In “Solitude,” released under the Australian record label “Worlds Within Worlds” Hasan Imam collaborates with the renowned sarod player Manik Khan and delves into the richness of West African and Indian Classical Music to forge a compelling union that transcends traditional borders and genres. A seasoned collaborator and performer, Hasan Imam’s performances/collaborations include Reina Sofia Conservatory – Madrid, Zeman Festival – Serbia, Boston Calling – Boston, and Mostra Viva Del Mediterrani – Spain (Conference of Mediterranean Music and Science). Notably, Hasan Imam is a member of the Qalandar Arts Ensemble, a collaborative multi-cultural music project bringing together musicians and music traditions from around the world to performance spaces in London, UK.

Manik Khan has been steeped in the ancient melodies of North Indian classical music since birth. The youngest son of the legendary Sarod maestro, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, he grew up listening to his father in countless concerts and attending his classes at the esteemed Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, CA. Today, Manik also collaborates with musicians and various ensembles to present his father’s lineage of Hindustani classical music—honoring both the tradition and its remarkable history, while also helping to make it accessible to new audiences. This has included partnering with Bay Area schools to bring Indian Classical Music to youth orchestras, collaborating with the late conductor Michael Morgan and the Fremont Symphony Orchestra, recording in mixed mediums, and live-streaming.
