Follow Your Lead – A Workshop
November 18, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
$5 – $10“How can we build a movement if we can’t move together?”
As artists, administrators, culture workers, and professionals with “many hats,” we often learn to lead by necessity without exploring the nuances of leading within diverse communities, or confronting what it might mean to follow instead of lead. Through the lens of movement and partner dance, this workshop explores alternate understandings of “leadership,” core issues of trust, and the role of regenerative practices in creating a healthy, sustainable, and creative life.
We’ll use tools and techniques from Argentine tango and salsa rueda, two highly social dance forms, to explore leadership, connection, power structures, and the ways in which one moves through the world to affect social change. No dance or leadership experience is necessary. Space is limited!
This project is generously supported by Emerging Arts Professionals SF/BA’s MADE Incubator Program.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Cristina Ibarra wants to rock your world. She knows the arts are a great way to do this and has dedicated the last 10 years to empowering artists and youth to use their talents and creativity to inspire us all. She’s an enabler. She’s an administrator. She’s an artist. She’s a facilitator. Whether in the space between a dance embrace or a ukulele chord, behind an office desk or in front of an audience, Ibarra’s mission is to help people connect with themselves, the world, and others around them through the sublime experience of art.
Currently Events Manager at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival in San Francisco, Ibarra has previously worked with ArtSpan, Red Poppy Art House, Mission Arts & Performance Project (MAPP), and Oakland-based LATE NITE ART. She is a member of APAP’s Emerging Leadership Institute, Women of Color in the Arts (WOCA), Women’s Audio Mission (WAM), and is a past EAP Fellow. In her spare time (yeah right!), she enjoys teaching dance, performing with local musicians, and exploring the Bay Area.
Time: 12:45pm doors / 1:00pm event. Latecomers will not be admitted – please arrive on time.
Admission: $5 EAP member / $10 general. No one turned away for lack of funds.
