ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Alex Hand has performed at the Red Poppy with Istanbul Connection, Jessica Fichot, Mahala, as well as his own band. The Alex Hand Band started in 2014 as a Django Reinhardt-style, acoustic jazz/swing quartet and evolved into an electric guitar-led Balkan folk jazz ensemble. After studying folk music in Eastern Europe in 2015, Hand has gathered a group of Bay Area jazz, classical, and Balkan musicians and mobilized a project bringing progressive rock and jazz sensibilities to traditional music, crafted in the chaos of communist regimes, gypsy villages, and community dance.
