Madeline Tasquin (Mana Maddy) + Laura Weinbach (of Foxtails Brigade)

Bon Voyage Songs — Chanson français & chamber pop

Canadian-Californian songstress Madeline Tasquin was born to an opera singer mother and goldminer father, which goes a long way to explain her music and the big energy she brings to the stage. Tonight she’ll be joined by Chris Lauf (drums, ukulele), Oscar Westesson (upright bass) and Dan Cantrell (saw, accordion, piano).

The Musical Art Quintet

Nuevo Chamber

The Musical Art Quintet was formed in 2008 in the Mission district of San Francisco during chamber music jam sessions every Sunday night at Cafe Revolution. Each week a new piece of music was written by MAQ band leader Sascha Jacobsen to be performed at Classical Revolution, and ink still wet, they would read through the piece in front of a live audience. As their repertoire grew, a core group of players emerged and the quintet was founded.

Nuevo Chamber is their name for this new genre that blends world music influences with a chamber music ensemble.

Jory Fankuchen – violin
Anthony Blea – violin
Charith Premawardhan – viola
Lewis Patzner – cello
Sascha Jacobsen – bass

“Classical music is sexy again. Lest you doubt that, look no further than chamber group, The Musical Art Quintet” – East Bay Express

“composer-bassist Sascha Jacobsen’s concoctions hop nimbly through a world of styles while impressing with ear-catching intricacy and handsome technique….indelible tracks like “Milonga de San Francisco” and Afrobeat-inflected “Fela Feliz” are spirited treats that will have you twirling across the floor.” – SF Guardian

Cradle Duende, & Safiya

Safiya is a world music band heavily influenced by Mediterranean, Balkan, Middle Eastern, Central Asian, Rom, Japanese, Latin American, Funk and Surf music. The band experiments blending these different styles, in a way that captures a brand new sound while keeping the essence of each culture. The music is energetic and danceable and at the same time very raw and soulful.

Cradle Duende presents a combination of Klezmer and Flamenco “klezmenco” with an infusion of reggae-cumbia and balkan melodies and dance rhythms. Cradle Duende takes its name from the Spanish word “duende”, in reference to a musically heightened state of emotion, expression, and authenticity; and a merging of disparate musical traditions that each evolved from independent cradles of civilization. Cradle Duende brings the strength of deep cultural roots into the party atmosphere.

Paul - Sax
Justin – guitar/vocs
Morgan – clarinet
adam – bass
jesse – percussion
dave – percussion

“Cradle Duende’s great playing and amazing repertoire reaches from Poland to Morocco with many wonderful stops in between. They were a big hit.” -MC Bill Schechner, Co-Anchor of NBC News-Overnight
