Yassir Chadly and The Moroccans: Moroccan Trance Music
Saturday, August 26 @ 7:30PM

Moroccan musician, composer, professor of Sufi and Islamic studies, imam, and storyteller Yassir Chadly makes a rare visit to the Poppy, where he will weave together traditional Moroccan Sufi trance music, wisdom from the Sufi tradition, and music from his most recent recording, Asheeq Zeen.

Yassir Chadly, a Casablanca native and Bay Area resident since 1977, has performed with many American artists, including Alvin Ailey, Omar Sosa, and Steve Coleman. He’s also the co-founder of the acclaimed Moroccan Project and an associate professor at UC Berkeley’s Graduate Theological Union. He lives with his wife, filmmaker Khadijah Chadly, in the East Bay.
