Nylon with Tabla and Guitar with Flute: Two Duos Exploring the Art of Genre Blending

Therianthrope is the musical duo led by nylon string guitarist, Dusty Brough and tabla artist, Miles Shrewsbery. The wide spectrum of sounds presented by Therianthrope are inspired by their diverse backgrounds in flamenco, Balkan, Indian classical, jazz, Persian and pop, to name just a few. They unabashedly break down genre barriers while reinterpreting the sounds of today’s jazz and other traditional music. Therianthrope debuted at the Loft in San Diego, CA, where they opened for Charlie Hunter and Scott Amendola on December 5th, 2013. Their much-anticipated first album will be released in early 2014 through Avaaz Records.

“[Therianthrope exhibits a] blatant disregard for genre boxes.” –Joe Bendel, Epoch Times

Brilliant Brazilian guitarist Ian Faquini and versatile flutist Rebecca Kleinmann present a set featuring Ian’s unique original compositions complimented by sweet swinging Brazilian grooves, rich harmonies, beautiful melodies and story-like lyrics. Ian became an accomplished guitarist at an early age, attracting the attention of renowned Brazilian composer Guinga, who became his mentor, friend, and inspiration. Flutist, singer, and composer Rebecca Kleinmann is a musical chameleon equally comfortable in several genres, and with her heart in jazz, Brazilian, and flamenco music. The two musicians have been friends for ten years, and began playing often together since Rebecca moved to Oakland in 2010. This is a duo not to be missed.
