The Tiffany Austin Quintet

August 29, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

$10 – $15

Creole, Swing & Soul Unite

Tiffany Austin, current artist resident at the Red Poppy, will perform her Creole Music Project, mixing swing, blues, soul and hip-hop. Performing in French Creole and English with an all-star lineup of players, Austin will explore the intersections between swing, soul, and creole music. Her unique, soulful sound draws upon the ground-breaking work of Creole accordionist Amede Ardoin and other songs from the blues tradition. This performance will be a culmination of her work from her year-long residency at the Poppy.

Her vocal approach has not only drawn her into numerous jazz projects, but has also led to collaborations on contemporary music recordings, including a national tour with funk group Orgone, and recording for UnderCover’s Sly and the Family Stone tribute. For three consecutive years, she received a full scholarship to study at the Berkeley Jazz School, and in 2012, was a finalist in the Jazz Search West competition.

The Tiffany Austin Quintet includes:
Tiffany Austin – lead vocals
Howard Wiley – tenor sax
Ron Belcher – bass
Sly Randolph – drums
