The Arsonists and The Jon Hatamiya Quintet
June 20, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 – $15A Night of Fervent (Post) Jazz
Describing themselves as a “post-jazz shred fest” with promised results of “ecstatic eardrum immolation”, the Arsonists’ energy and intensity are immediately clear in both mentality and performance. Melding East Coast jazz conservatory training with an open minded and passionate approach to composition, they fuse together a diverse array of influences including contemporary jazz, neo-Caribbean dancehall, and funk-metal grooves. The unified sound emerging from these disparate influences is at once idiosyncratic and organic, and above all extremely powerful.
Patrick Bartley – Alto Saxophone, and Nintendo DS
Xavier Del Castillo – Tenor Saxophone
Julian Garvue – Piano and Keyboard
Mat Muntz – Double Bass
Max Holmberg – Drums
Sharing the night, Northern California native and New York based trombonist/composer Jon Hatamiya leads his quintet featuring some of the finest up-and-coming instrumentalists of Sacramento and the Bay Area. Emphasizing original compositions, strong musical interaction, and heavy grooves, Hatamiya and his quintet mix jazz with rock and electronica for a high energy musical experience.
Jon Hatamiya – Trombone
Lucas Del Calvo – Guitar
Nick Lamb – Piano/Keys
Andy McCauley – Acoustic/Electric Bass
Colin McDaniel – Drums
