Taraf de Locos: Local Band Brings Mission Flavors to Life

January 16, 2015 @ 7:30 am - 10:00 pm

$10 – $20

Taraf de Locos is a group of talented young musicians who grew up together in San Francisco’s Mission District. They met as children at a magical music camp in the heart of California, where they were exposed to traditional music from all over the world for ten days every year. Before they formed Taraf de Locos, the young musicians played with their respective families, each naturally gravitating toward the different styles their families mastered. As they grew older and music became a passion rather than a family obligation, the group rediscovered each other as musicians, and drew on the variety of influences they grew up with. Since coming together as an ensemble, Taraf de Locos has been playing everywhere together: on the streets, beaches, hiking trails, around fire circles, and inside restaurants. With each member bringing a “unique flavor to the burrito,” their rhythms and layers of vocal harmonies keep audiences dancing and enchanted. Come join these best friends for an evening of fun-loving energy!

Aya Safiya – violin, vocals
Miguelito Leon – percussion, vocals
Tano Brock – alto sax, guitar, vocals
Cecilia Cassandra Peña-Govea – trumpet, vocals
