Whirled Raga Jazz
Namaskar is an ensemble that exists in two forms, one in the San Francisco Bay Area and the other in Brooklyn, New York. The group is led by percussionist Sameer Gupta and brings a unique approach to Indian/Jazz fusion. Namaskar is comprised of stellar local improvisers who individually represent modern extemporization. From Indian classical music, avant-garde jazz, R&B and soul, to funk and dub-reggae, Namaskar explores improvisational pathways through compositions from 1950s Golden-Era Bollywood, classic jazz melodies, traditional Indian classical ragas, as well as original compositions.
