MoonCandy: Live Soulful House Music

March 18, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$15 – $20

In the spirit of the black church, jazz, the Freedom Singers, and disco sensation Sylvester, MoonCandy creates an environment for survival music to live and thrive through live performance. The eight-piece ensemble, which features five of the East Bay’s most underrated jazz, soul, blues, and gospel singers, specializes in inspirational lyrics and transfixing grooves, giving birth to a “house church” where everyone is welcome to dance for love.

Featuring:
Scott Keller – drums
Shree Shyam Das – bass
Lamar Green – keys
Valerie Troutt – vocals
Solas B. Lalgee – vocals
Shamont Hussey – vocals
Paulynn Brown – vocals
Rashida Chase – vocals

MoonCandy, on the Bay Area music scene since 2010, has an illustrious performance history that includes Oakland Pride, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, Malcolm X Jazz Fest, the Laurel Street Fair, the Oakland Museum, and the People Party. Their most reflective work has been as the musical soundtrack for Nicole Klaymoon’s “Embodiment Project,” providing original music documenting the struggle of African-Americans, systemic racism, and sexism in the United States. Their 2016 EP, The Struggle is Real: Walk Together Children, is available on iTunes, Amazon, and at cdbaby.com.
