Lavay Smith: Two Shows!

April 12, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$15 – $20

A Billy Holiday Birthday Celebration

Lavay Smith sings the Billie Holiday Songbook

As a recreation of Lavay Smith’s four-night residency in the Joe Henderson Lab at SFJazz, Smith is joined by a four piece version of her world-class band, led by pianist Chris Siebert, Danny Armstrong on Trombone, Ron Belcher on bass, and featuring the legendary Jules Brossard on sax (Brossard has played with Ray Charles, Big Mama Thorton and Eddie Cleanhead Vinson.). Ms.Smith and her band will pay tribute to Lady Day herself, the immortal Billie Holiday, who single-handedly changed popular music by instilling personal life experiences into her lyrics and elevating the art of storytelling in song. Ms.Holiday popularized songs like “Don’t Explain,” “God Bless The Child,” “Lover Man,” “Solitude,” “Strange Fruit” and dozens more. Lavay Smith, along with a band of expert musicians, will bring the songstress back to life at this special Saturday evening at the Red Poppy Art House!

Check out Lavay Smith online.

Admission is $15-20. Doors will open for the first show at 6:30pm, the performance will start at 7pm.

For the second performance, doors will open at 8:20pm, and the performance will start at approximately 8:40pm.

Tickets will not be sold in advance for this event. Please arrive at the Red Poppy when doors open to purchase tickets.
