Kristine Barrett: Songs of Sanctuary
April 30 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm| $15 - $20
Kristine Barrett presents an evening of experimental folk melodies exploring the concept of refuge: a place that nurtures, extends, bridges; that asks us to appeal to our highest selves, to seek deeply the difficult questions and to be brave in the face of them. Her setlist: traditional music and ritual song from Norway, Iran, Estonia, Ireland, Sephardic Spain, Hungary, Brazil, and the Republic of Georgia.
Kristine Barrett – vocals, harmonium, piano
David Robert Johnson – guitar
Temple of Light Georgian Community Choir – vocals
Kristine Barrett is a transmedia artist, composer, and vocalist specializing in traditional music and ritual song from the Republic of Georgia, the Caucasus, Scandinavia, the Baltics, Eastern Europe, Ireland, and the Americas. Balanced between conservation and experimentation, Barrett acts as both monk and medium, honoring tradition while concurrently allowing the music to be alive in present bodies, reflecting the shape of the living. In addition to her solo work, she currently performs with the acclaimed Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble, Cantadora Sephardia with David Robert Johnson, and is the Artistic Director of the Temple of Light Georgian Community Choir.
