An Evening of Soulful Grooves
Jason Ewald has spent his career deeply immersed in diverse musical environments and, as a result, has developed his own particular brand of soulful, groove-driven music. His original compositions are inspired by a plethora of sounds that he’s picked up along the way – in his words, “by the refined sounds of 70s pop, the greasy soul of Muscle Shoals, the explorations of jazz, and the insistent rhythms of funk and rock.” His latest work with his ensemble, called simply, Ewald, contemplates the magic that he finds lying hidden within his everyday life, emerging from encounters with friends and lovers, bike rides through the city, the powerful energy of New York City and its inhabitants.
Jason spent several years living and playing music in San Francisco before moving to New York City in 2007, and so for his show at the Poppy he will invite some of his favorite Bay Area artists collaborate with him for an unpredictable night of fun, funky original music.
