Jascha Sings Caetano: Tribute to Brazilian Song

October 27, 2012 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

$10 – $15

Jascha Hoffman is a songwriter and science journalist in San Francisco. His debut album A Cure for Sleep was praised for “deceptively simple, deeply weird Pop songs” that earned comparisons to Sufjan Stevens and Leonard Cohen. Jascha’s second album, The Future Limited, was released in March 2012. His music videos have appeared on The Atlantic and Boing Boing. He is currently working on songs based on obituaries and science-fiction films.

Caetano Veloso is a songwriter and singer who has deeply influenced Brazilian culture since coming to prominence in the Tropicalismo movement of the 1960s alongside performers such as Maria Bethania, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil and Tom Ze. This evening Jascha will present a selection of songs spanning five decades of Caetano’s career, from Pop anthems to spiritual ballads, Bossa Nova to Psychedelic Rock. Translations of the pieces will be made available.

“Folk-pop, down-tempo philosophical musing, romantic longing and infectious harmonies all find their place on A Cure for Sleep. — The Deli Magazine

“Jascha Hoffman’s music will haunt your ear, mind and heart with its soulful, mournful melodies and lyrics.”—Norman Fischer, Everyday Zen Foundation

“Really like your words.” — Imogen Heap
