Fado, the Portuguese Blues
Angela Brito is a fadista born in Northern California who has won over audiences everywhere with her powerful voice and passionate delivery. Fado is a genre of Portuguese music typically characterized by sentiments of longing or melancholy. Sete Colinas is a string trio made up of Helder Carvalheira, Manuel Escobar and John Cardadeiro. Together, Angela and Sete Colinas provide an unforgettable and authentic fado experience full of the passion and emotion that fill the fado houses of Lisbon, Portugal. Angela received two AUA Awards (Artistas Unidos da América) this year for Best Fado and Best Portuguese Interpretation for songs on her debut fado album released in January of this year, Fado de Olhos Fechados. Angela and Guitar Trio Sete Colinas invite audiences to enjoy traditional fado ballads as well as contemporary compositions.
