Bret Higgins’ Atlas Revolt: Cinematic Jazz, Global Sounds
May 5 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm| $10 - $15
This Canadian quartet explores instrumental music that draws inspiration largely from film scores, jazz, rock, surf, and elements of Eastern European, African, and South American music. At the Poppy, the only San Francisco stop on their first U.S. tour, Atlas Revolt promises music from their acclaimed debut alongside selections from their upcoming album, due this year.
Bret Higgins – upright bass
Aleksandar Gajic – violin
Tom Juhas – electric guitar
Robbie Grunwald – electric piano
Max Senitt – drums
Upright bassist Bret Higgins formed Atlas Revolt in 2013 as a vehicle for his original instrumental compositions, and the band’s self-titled debut, released on John Zorn’s Tzadik Records in 2015, has been met with glowing reviews. Based in Toronto, Higgins performs regularly with Canadian folk-rock groups Great Lake Swimmers, Beyond The Pale, Zebrina, and Ozere.
