David Tanenbaum Presents: Antoniy Kakamakov – Classical Guitar: From Baroque to Contemporary

May 15, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

$15 – $20

Curated by David Tanenbaum, join prize-winning guitarist Antoniy Kakamakov for a night of powerfully emotional and virtuosic classical guitar music. From Bach, Weiss and Mertz to Latin Grammy-winning guitarist/composer Sérgio Assad, the program will explore major works from the Baroque repertoire as well as more recent compositions influenced by early musical form.

Antoniy Kakamakov is a professional classical guitarist, chamber musician, and educator. He attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he received his Bachelors, Masters, and Professional Studies Degrees. He has received awards from guitar festivals including the Sierra Nevada and the Wesley Day Classical Guitar Recording Competition as well as the Portland, Louisville, Tennessee, and SFCM Guitar Concerto Competitions. Kakamakov actively performs both as a soloist and with the Pacific Guitar Ensemble, a group consisting of SFCM guitar faculty and selected alumni. With a passion for teaching, Antoniy is currently the classical guitar faculty at Oakland School for the Arts.

“Tony Kakamakov is a terrific young guitar player. Having come to the U.S. to study guitar at age 14, he was one of the hardest workers in the San Francisco Conservatory Guitar Department. He tackles the most difficult repertoire with aplomb, and his interpretations have intensity as well as beauty.” ‒ David Tanenbaum, San Francisco Conservatory of Music Guitar Department Chair
